- From an existing smart card (PIV, CAC, TWIC, FRAC, ACIS) or legacy credential
- An authoritative database or third party Identity Management System (IDMS) to enable usage and provisioning
- By live enrollment/registration; for PIV credentials this requires following the entire FIPS 201 process for credential and electronic identity creation; that is, a fully-compliant FIPS 201 solution. This process begins with sponsorship through registration, vetting and credential creation
